The Henry Moore The Henry Moore Foundation is a registered charity, established in 1977 'to advance the education of the public by the promotion of their appreciation of the fine arts and in particular the work of Henry Moore'. It operates from Dane Tree House, Perry Green, and the Henry Moore Institute, Leeds.
Henry Moore and his wife Irina moved to Perry Green in 1940 after their home and studio in Hampstead had been damaged in the Blitz. To begin with they rented one of a pair of fifteenth-century cottages. Shortly afterwards, helped by the sale of a large elmwood carving, they bought both cottages and eventually joined them to make Hoglands, which remained the family home for the rest of their lives.
Over the following years Moore gradually added land and buildings, and in 1977 he gave the estate, by then some seventy acres, to the Foundation. This gift includes studios and barns, which remain very much as they were in his lifetime. – post code SG10 6EE, approx tour time 2½ hours
